History
Karim Alibhai, founder and principal of Gencom, is a pioneering developer with decades of hospitality expertise. Born in Kenya and raised in Texas, he spent his early years learning the hospitality business from the ground up while working in his family’s hotels.
Founded by Karim Alibhai, Gencom focused on hospitality investment, development, and operations, building an early track record through hotel acquisitions, portfolio transactions, and operating platform investments.
Expanding beyond traditional hospitality, post Gencom’s initial exit into Wyndham and the Patriot American REIT, Gencom began acquiring and building platforms including Interstate Hotels, Summerfield extended stay, and creating a Europe propco venture. Gencom then successfully navigated through the Great Financial Crisis through a series of capital and operational initiatives during the industry’s most challenging period.
Gencom broadened its capabilities across acquisition, development, financing, asset management, and operations, creating a more integrated platform while expanding throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Europe. Gencom became an early leader in luxury mixed-use resorts and branded residential developments alongside global brands including Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, and Rosewood.
Today, Gencom is a global investment, development, and operating platform with billions in assets, iconic hospitality destinations, and affiliated operating businesses including Pyramid Global Hospitality.
Focused on the next generation of luxury hospitality, branded residential, and mixed-use destinations, Gencom continues to scale its platform, partnerships, and presence in leading global markets.
